The Ebb-Tide is a humorous story by Robert Louis Stevenson and Lloyd Osbourne. Three beggars run their petty scams in the port of Papeete on Tahiti. Along comes the opportunity of a lifetime, namely stealing a ship and its cargo, but they instead end up on an island where they try to plunder Attwater, a staunch Christian, who has been harvesting pearls there with the help of native laborers. Attwater proves to be heartlessly violent while debating always of Jesus' forgiveness. He interchangeably repels and captivates the other characters, and mirrors Stevenson's own clashed sentiments about Christianity...
