The Howling at Hangman's Hill In the dusky shadows of the 1800s American West, Hangman's Hill stood solitary against a canvas of endless prairies and jagged mountains. The hill, named for its grim history as a site for frontier justice, was avoided by locals, who whispered of eerie howls that pierced the night.
Sheriff John Baxter, a hardened lawman, sat in the dimly lit saloon, sipping his whiskey. "They say when the moon is full, you can hear them howls," he muttered to the barkeep, an old man with eyes as deep as the secrets he held.
"Aye, Sheriff," the barkeep replied, polishing a glass. "They say it's the souls of the hanged, forever trapped in torment."
That night, as the full moon rose, a blood-curdling howl shattered the silence of the small town. The sheriff, along with his deputy, Thomas, rode out to Hangman's Hill, lanterns flickering in the haunting darkness.
"What in tarnation do you think that is, Sheriff?" Thomas asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Stay sharp," John replied, his hand resting on his revolver. "Could be anything in these parts."
As they neared the top, the howls grew louder, more desperate. Suddenly, out of the darkness, a figure emerged. It was a man, or what was left of one, his body twisted and grotesque, eyes glowing with an unnatural light.
