Total depravity, as viewed from a Calvinist perspective, is the belief that mankind is fallen and sinful by nature, and that apart from the grace of God, human beings are completely incapable of choosing God or doing good. This doctrine is derived from various biblical passages and forms the "T" in the famous TULIP acronym, which summarizes the five points of Calvinism.
