During the mid-1800, in Denmark, Mormonism began to spread through the Lutheran congregations. Life-long friends became immediate enemies upon learning of ones’ joining the Mormon movement. Due to an accident that crippled him at a young age, Niels Larsen Eskildz faced unique challenges and isolation within his family, friends and peers. These difficulties undoubtedly prepared him as he moved forward in his determination to leave his home land. His faith and perseverance propelled him to the Salt Lake Valley. Despite his physical condition, he performed vicarious work for the dead in the temple. Niels remained dedicated to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the eternal progress for those beyond the veil.

Miscellaneous Saints and Subjects

Faced with the difficulty of earning her daily living, Carolina Corradi was greatly limited in time available to labor in the temple everyday. She felt inspired to hire Niels Larsen Eskildz to preform work in the temple for her male ancestors. Though she predominately hired other women to perform work for her female ancestors, as time would allow, she would perform work in the temple as well. She remained dedicated to her labors throughout her life.

The great eternal purpose of families and temple work was prophesied by Elijah, the prophet. The sacrifices made by early pioneers and members of the church for the gospel and temple work, were such that they were willing to give up all they possessed and their lives, if necessary.

A brief summary is given of the Mary Alice Cannon and the Lambert family in their travels and trials as early Mormon pioneers. No sacrifice was deemed too great for the truly devoted and faithful pioneers, in their labors to complete work for the dead in the temple. The physical difficulties and lack of modern convenience and comfort did not deter them in their course. As these faithful pioneers graduated from this life to immortality, their reward and communion with those, for whom work was completed, surely was a joyous reunion.
