A great many theorists have argued that the defining feature of modernity is that people no longer believe in spirits, myths, or magic. Jason A. About the author

Jason Ananda Josephson-Storm is chair and associate professor of the department of religion at Williams College. He received his PhD from Stanford University in 2006 and his MTS from Harvard University in 2001. He is also the author of The Invention of Religion in Japan, and The Myth of Disenchantment.

Chris MacDonnell is a classically trained actor who holds a degree from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. His theater credits include London's West End and the Royal National Theatre, and he has been featured in British TV shows, BBC radio-drama, commercials, and films. Chris now lives in Southern California.
