About this audiobook

The Marriage of Heaven and Hell - as Featured in the Jim Jarmusch Film 'Dead Man', Starring Johnny Depp!

A new and strikingly illustrated visual re-interpretation of the classic mystical poetic work by the English poet and printmaker William Blake, 'The Marriage of Heaven and Hell' is a must-read for any serious literati or poet. Narrated by award winning producer-narrator Jason Rosette

Blake's groundbreaking work may be best known for the prophetic chapter 'Proverbs of Hell':

"Drive your cart and your plough over the bones of the dead"

"The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom"

"Prudence is a rich ugly old maid courted by Incapacity"

(and more)

Timeless aphorisms combined with a pioneering visionary Romantic spirit make 'The Marriage of Heaven and Hell' a must-read for any serious poet or literati. The book was composed between 1790 and 1793 in the period of ferment and political conflict immediately following the French Revolution.

Blake at his finest! For those listeners who don't know much about William Blake, this audiobook is a great introduction to his work and sensibility and overall vision. Blake was a huge figure in the UK Romanticism movement, and his poetry in this case is really more like parables, proverbs, and aphorsims. Some of them are quite visionary, although some are so cryptic that a lot of thought can be put into the meaning. Luckily, the text is thoughtfully conveyed with some nice articulate narration (American neutral accent), and this really helps to let the words sink in. Maybe best to listen to this audiobook with a companion Blake ebook or compilation, but on it's own it's still very illuminating.
