It's not Coville's best work by far. I'm glad I veered away from it when I was a child. It would have ruined my image of him. This is a trunk novel that maybe should never have seen the light of publication. It lacks originality by borrowing too much from Greek mythology, and I feel that he could have done far better with his character development. Dragon Hatcher, Monster Ring, Murdley's Toad, and the Skull of Truth are far better publications of his by far. I'd skip this one. Bruce Coville is a great author, but this wasn't one of his better reads.
