About this audiobook

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Chalk Man by C. J. Tudor, read by Andrew Scott and Asa Butterfield.

None of us ever agreed on the exact beginning.

Was it when we started drawing the chalk figures, or when they started to appear on their own?

Was it the terrible accident?

Or when they found the first body?

Not a bad story but it got a bit boring towards the end. There are a lot of similarities to Stephen King's 'IT' but the biggest problem, for me, was Andrew Scott's narration. He would, at times and at crucial points, whisper and become unintelligible which drove me mad. I'm not sure if it's a horror or a thriller either because some supposed "horror" parts just didn't make sense, the ending being one of them. The twist wasn't a shock either just a bit far fetched and daft.

About the author

C. J. Tudor’s love of writing, especially the dark and macabre, started young. When her peers were reading Judy Blume, she was devouring Stephen King and James Herbert. She is now the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Chalk Man, The Taking of Annie Thorne, The Other People, The Burning Girls and The Drift. All of her books are in development or optioned for TV, and The Burning Girls debuted on Paramount Plus in 2023. She is also the author of a short story collection, A Sliver of Darkness.
