Голод 1932-1933 годов нанес Казакской АССР (тогда еще автономной, в составе РСФСР) колоссальный ущерб, прошедшийся не только по хозяйству, но и культуре и быту казахов. В книге подробно разбирается административная и хозяйственная подоплека этой хозяйственной катастрофы, и показывается, как сочетание тех или иных решений, условий и методов реализации может привести к массовому и гибельному голоду.
