Известны семь писем Тургенева к Кашперову за 1857–1864 гг. и одиннадцать писем Кашперова к Тургеневу. В письме из Петербурга от 17 (29) декабря 1859 г. Тургенев поздравил композитора с успехом его оперы «Мария Тюдор», поставленной на сцене театра Каркано в Милане, и обещал напечатать «во всех здешних журналах» статью о деятельности Кашперова, если он пришлет «обещанные отрывки из газет», характеризующие отношение итальянской прессы к новой опере.
