Брюсов – автор более 80 книг стихов, прозы, критики и переводов с разных языков. Он был видным специалистом по римской поэзии, французскому символизму, творчеству Пушкина и Тютчева, теории русского стиха. Большим успехом пользовались его романы «Огненный ангел» и «Алтарь победы». Перу Брюсова принадлежат и такие произведения: «Русские символисты», «Семь земных соблазнов», «Семь цветов радуги», «Сестры», «Сны человечества».
