Чехова, я переиздаю настоящий очерк о Чехове, хотя форма изложения и развития основных его мыслей, в значительной мере случайная и приуроченная к публичной лекции, самого меня не вполне удовлетворяет. Однако частичными переделками обойтись здесь было бы нельзя, и потому я предпочитаю (кроме отдельных фраз) оставить текст в неизмененном виде. Добавлено вновь лишь об отношении Чехова к русской интеллигенции...»
