من الاهتمام بالحفظ نشأ تقليد أصيل من تقاليد الشعر العربي ألا وهو أهمية البيت الفرد كوحدة مستقلة قابلة للانفصال عن بقية القصيدة وبالتالي قابلة للحفظ ككيان قائم بذاته...إن أحدًا من المقلدين أو المجددين لا يستطيع أن ينكر أن البيت الفرد لعب دورًا حاسمًا في الشعر العربي التقليدي يفوق بكثير دور البيت الفرد في أشعار الأمم الأخرى، والغربية بوجه خاص... لقد كان شعرنا العربي التقليدي، في الغالب الأعم من الحالات،شعر أبيات لا شعر قصائد. ومن هنا جاءت التعبيرات العديدة التي تتحدث «عن الشوارد» و «بيت القصيد» و »عيون الشعر».
