قسمت فصول الرسالة على خمسة فصول، تناولت ظاهرة الوحي في الفصل الاول منها بحيث يتكون عند القاريء فكرة موسعة عن هذه الظاهرة التي هي عماد النبوة وميزان صدقها وفيما يخصها بشكل ذاتي فقد قدمت إطلالة عن جوانب وخصائص الظاهرة الوحيية المختلفة, وفي الفصل الثاني تحدث المفسرون بوضوح عن قضية الوحي, و في الفصل الثالث تناول حيثيات الاستشراق وان كانت تبدو في بعض المواضع على تماس غير مباشر مع حدود مسألة الوحي, وفي رابع فصول الرسالة تناولت مصادر الوحي في نظر المستشرقين.
