كتاب لم يعرض فيه ابن تيمية كل السور والآيات القرآنية كما يفعل عامة المفسرين، إنما أراد الإمام أن يجمع في هذا الكتاب الآيات التي نتج عنها خلاف فقهي، أو خلاف عقدي ورد فيه على من يخالفه خاصة في العقيدة. ولكن يظل الكتاب كتاب تفسير فهو يعرض أيضا لتفسير مفردات وآراء المفسرين وأسباب النزول، وفضائل بعض السور، وفوائد يستخرجها من الآيات. والمجلدان 1و2 يشتملان على مقدمة في علم التفسير
