أول شخص في الكتاب ذكر باسم هوشع هو يشوع بن نون الذي أدخل الشعب الأرض. فعندما أرسله موسى في إرسالية الجواسيس كان اسمه «هوشع بن نون» (عدد13 :8) والذي دعاه موسى فيما بعد باسم يشوع (عدد13 :16) وآخر ملوك مملكة إسرائيل الذي في عهده حدث سبي الأسباط العشرة على يد أشور يدعى هوشع. يالها من مباينة أن الذي ادخل الشعب الأرض هو هوشع بن نون والذي في عهده تم سبي مملكة إسرائيل هو الملك هوشع وأن الذي تنبأ على مملكة إسرائيل بالقضاء المروع هو النبي هوشع.
