ألف الإمام البغوي " مصابيح السنة " جمع فيها أحاديث النبي تحت أبواب الفقه والعقيدة والأخلاق دون ذكر الصحابي ولا السند ولا الكتاب الذي خرج الحديث فتمم التبريزي كتابه بأن ذكر اسم الصحابي والكتاب الذي خرجه وأضاف عليه بعض الأحاديث وسماها " مشكاة المصابيح ". وقد شرحه كثير من الفقهاء ومن أحسنها وأطولها شرح الطيبي، بين فيه معاني الكلمات الغريبة وأعرب المشكلات وذكر أقوال العلماء الفقهية المستنبطة من الحديث .واللطائف والإشارات والعقائد، وقد ألحق بالكتاب مجلد فيها فهارس تفصيلية لأحاديثه
