كان ابن الفارض يعيش حالات الوجد والفناء بالله كما عاشها كبار مشايخ الصوفية كابن عربي والحلاج وغيرهم، فقد كانوا يعيشون في غيبوبة تطول لأيام، حتى أثناء صحوه كان ابن الفارض أحيانا كثيرة لا يسمع كلام محدثه ولا يراه، شغل ابن الفارض بالشعر نحو أربعين سنة، ولكن شعره بقيمة معانيه فهو من حيث السبك ضعيف لكنه من حيث المعاني فحل من الفحول وفيه معان دقيقة عميقة لا يفهم كثيرا منها إلا من عرف لغة الصوفية ومصطلحهم . وهذا ديوان يحتوي على مجمل شعر ابن الفارض، مرتب ترتيبا ألفبائيا على حسب قوافيه الشعرية . وعليه شرح للألفاظ المبهمة
