中共歷史還有一個特點，是某些領導人得到的“英名”，卻不一定“符實”。例如在1989年“六四”事件中，時為人大委員長的萬里，從北美受重托返國之後，飛機被迫降落上海之後，萬里很快“站到了歷史錯誤的一邊”；而被寄望於“江落石出”的政治局常委喬石，不但並非如傳聞投了反對屠殺一票，事實上他對老上司、國務院副總理吳學謙突然翻臉，就是因為吳學謙之子播報了六四屠殺新聞。
