本書以重構中古中國佛經協作翻譯歷史為題，考究經本、注疏、經錄、譯序、僧傳、出土文獻等多種史料，提出漢唐年間的譯經組織可分為「小組譯經」、「大型譯場」和「精英譯場」三類，探討近百個譯例，說明多人譯經模式的生成本末、核心譯者、翻譯流程和翻譯特徵，並分析譯經運作程序的演化脈絡，藉此補充中國翻譯史的研究，揭示古代佛教思想交流的方式。
