從西元622年伊斯蘭教興起之後，隨著宗教的傳播促使阿拉伯妾樂融合波斯、突厥、希臘、非洲、印度以及東南亞等傳統音樂理論與型態，建構成多元的伊斯蘭世界音樂文化。儘管伊蘭世界音樂已成為世界音樂文化重要體系之一，也對歐洲中世紀音樂以及中國、韓國、日本等亞洲音樂文化產生極大的影響，然而過在歐洲強勢音樂文化影響之下，我們對伊斯蘭世界音樂文化的認識卻極為有限。正值「世界音樂」的研究已經成為音樂學界重要領域，為了對世界各民族音樂文化以氶中外音樂文化互動有更深一層了解，研究伊斯蘭世界音樂文化也就有其必要性。 本書共分七章，分別從伊斯蘭音樂發展歷程、音調理論與節奏模式、伊斯蘭世界的樂器種類、伊斯蘭宗教音樂觀與宗教音樂型態、古典音樂型態、民俗音樂傳統以及伊斯世界音樂的西化與現代化等層面加以探討、分析，期望藉此揭開伊斯蘭世界音樂文化的神秘面紗。
