本研究綜合運用經濟學、管理學的理論和方法，首先梳理我國不同歷史階段的農業技術進步的類型及主要影響因素，論述新形勢下農業技術進步面臨的挑戰，其次重點構建農業生產性服務業與農業技術進步的理論分析模型。並對農業生產性服務業體系對農業技術進步作用機制和影響路徑進行理論分析。在此基礎上多種方法（面板數據、因果檢驗、DEA、SDA、SFA）實證農業生產性服務與農業技術進步的內在關聯機制和農業生產性服務業影響農業技術進步現狀，並利用微觀調查數據，運用logistic等模型實證農業技術進步的生產性服務影響。進而較為系統地分析了促進農業技術進步的農業生產性服務業發展的實現機制。最後在西方發達國家生產性服務業發展促進技術進步的經驗借鑒的基礎上，基於服務理論和制度經濟學相關理論，提出各級政府有效地整合農業生產性服務的各類主體、各種資源和各個要素，促進農業技術進步的政策建議和路徑選擇。
