斯里蘭卡農、林、漁業和水力資源豐富，石墨礦產居世界首位，茶葉及藍寶石聞名全球，旅遊業亦為重要的經濟收入。斯里蘭卡告別長達26 年內戰後，戰後商機湧現，對建材、食品、家電、資通訊、機械設備、五金、汽機車零組件等產品需求甚殷，相關產品內需巿場商機潛力大。
斯國政府近年來除致力於重建大型公共建設之外，並歡迎各國企業積極投資包括：資通訊、電力、交通運輸、建築、機械等產業。國際貨幣基金會（IMF）估計，2016 年及2017 年斯里蘭卡經濟均成長約5％。
錫蘭商會日前公布2017 年斯里蘭卡經濟前景報告指出，斯里蘭卡橡膠、服裝等行業在2017 年的表現樂觀。錫蘭商會表示，2017 年第一季斯里蘭卡橡膠出口將因泰國發生洪水限制橡膠供應量而受惠。另外，隨著美國經濟增強和消費者信心改善，服裝出口到美國將有所改善，並且隨著GSP Plus1的恢復，斯里蘭卡服裝出口到歐盟也將增加。
