緬甸具有絕佳的地理位置，為亞洲三大經濟體（中國大陸、南亞、東協）的唯一交集，國土面積67 萬平方公里，是中南半島土地面積最大的國家，約為臺灣的19 倍大，人口5,100 萬人，其中約有300 萬華人，首都為內比都，主要商業活動集中在第一及第二大城--仰光及曼德勒，同時也是東協經濟共同體（AEC）及RCEP成員國之一。
緬甸曾經是亞洲的富裕國家，卻在受到軍政府長期的鎖國政策統治及國際制裁下，成為世界上最貧窮的國家之一，目前仍屬低度開發國家（LDC）。2010 年緬甸民主改革，舉行國會大選，結束半世紀的軍政府統治，登盛總統於2011 年上任後，實行全面經濟改革，開放門戶以趕上外面的世界，自此，緬甸也開始成為各國投資熱點，外資開始蜂擁前來投資與考察。
