這本書是採用多重敘述的方法編寫，三分之一的篇幅是以范仲淹的第一人稱自述，三分之二的篇幅則是由范仲淹周遭的重要人物來敘述故事，包括他的親人、好友，當然也有他的敵人，目的除了增加讀者的閱讀趣味之外，更希望讀者從不同的角度去認識范仲淹。
