在台中市思恩堂受浸，在中學主日學中便對聖經創世記有極大的興趣，1972年畢業於中原理工學院，1981年在紐約州大完成水資源及環境工程博士學位，畢業後曾任職工程顧問公司及美國陸軍工程局主任及資深工程師。
