紫微斗數，是中國傳統星命術最重要的一個支派，它以人出生的年月日時，確定十宮的位置，構成命盤，結合各宮的星群組合，牽繫周易卦爻，來論斷一個人的命運流程。紫微斗數的出發點依然是天人合一的觀念和陰陽五行的學說。紫微斗數以紫微垣中諸星的尊卑位置，及地球面對它們向背運動的規律，賦予各星不同的命理意義，以推算人的命運。紫微斗數在中國神祕的術數文化中號稱「天下第一神數」。
紫微斗數透過命盤十二宮，系統而又全面地預測一個人一生錯綜複雜的社會關係和個人際遇，邏輯體系嚴密，既相對容易、程序化，又變化演繹，有較高的數理性和深刻性。明朝羅洪先研習紫微斗數後，曾說：「始觀排列星辰，猶不省其奧窔(幽深之意)，既讀其論，論則有道理，玩其斷，斷則有神驗。即以賤降試之，果毫髮不爽。」由先賢的評價，可見紫微斗數的準確、神奇。
自本世紀以來，紫微斗數推命術在港、台、東南亞和日本等地異常風行，應用於政治、財經、文化、社會生活各領域，風靡於社會各個階層。
紫微斗數相傳為宋代陳摶老祖(希夷先生)所著，陳摶精通易理，首創「無極圖」， 開創先天易學。但原著玄奧難懂，一般愛好者難免望而怯步。對愛好者來說，學習紫微斗數，最難的是排命盤，不會排命盤，後面的斷詞再精闢準確，也是毫無用處。因此，本書詳盡地介紹了排命盤的方法，並舉例演示，以滿足初學者的需要。還收錄了紫微斗數推命實例，以供讀者研習借鑒。
