本书以残障权利为主题，就残障者教育、残障者就业、精神与智力障碍、残障与性别及残障、法治与社会等议题进行深入探索。 本书有三个突出特点。一是鲜明的权利视角。传统的残障研究往往受限于福利和慈善立场，本刊作者却致力于跳出传统路径的窠臼，以中国签署和批准的联合国《残疾人权利公约》为圭臬，以“基于权利的发展”这个全新的残障理念与国际人权标准为指引，向世人展示了中国学者在人权视角下开展残障研究的成果。二是多学科研究的方法。作者们没有囿于单一学科的樊篱和桎梏，综合运用社会学、法学、政治学、教育学，乃至医学、公共卫生学等学科的话语和理论，对残障权利进行了近乎全景的扫描，是多学科人权研究方法在残障权利领域的系统运用。三是突出实证性。作者们深入“田野”，直面真实世界，关注残障人权利实现的迫切问题，得出了有意义、有说服力的结论，这必将促进有关残障权利的实践、法律与政策的变革。 本书的出版，被《中国残障人观察报告（□014）》称为该年度残障领域具远见的事件。
