臺灣教育哲學的探究路徑，大致傾向兩個主要軌道：一是主義的鋪陳，其價值是可以看出教育思潮的大趨勢和「時代性」；另一是側重傳統哲學領域，集中在探索與形上學、知識論及倫理學等三大哲學基礎相關的教育議題，其優勢是能以理性、邏輯的形式，客觀地呈顯、分析教育。然「個人」在教育歷程裡的知覺感受面向，在「主義」和「傳統哲學領域」這兩種研究路徑中，卻總是被冷落的，亦即強調主體經驗的教育美學是缺席的、隱形的。 本書從知覺、遊戲、想像、表現、詩性和孤獨等六大主題來凝思教育的根本問題，是對臺灣教育哲學研究作出一個美學提案。凡是對「有感教學」、「教學的遊戲結構」、「教育想像潛能」、「教學表現原理」、「詩性教學」和「教育的本質回歸」等主題有興趣的讀者，或許都能從本書中尋得一些有價值的對話與交流。
