作者出生於二戰末期，在貧困的生存條件中因父親的積極鼓勵，努力學習，力爭上游，藉由公費教育制度，成就了各階段的目標。
歷經嘉義縣大埔國小和臺南市顯宮國小的歷練，適逢義務教育延長改革，堅定作者實現因材施教的理念，也為無數學子築夢。而後在南師，經歷師範體系調整、師資培育法修改及九年一貫課程綱要誕生，可說是站在教育改革第一線，帶領並陪伴了無數夥伴與師培生共同為教育竭盡所能。
為了回應故鄉的呼喚，在出生的四草，以個人所學所能推展生態與環境保護教育，改變台江生態旅遊。亦於九二一大地震期間，投入災區輔導工作。
