昭和20（1945）年8月16日、終戦から一夜明けたこの日の朝、松下幸之助は幹部社員たちを一室に集め、次のような趣旨の訓辞をした。「今日の帰結は、明治維新以後、国民が日本精神を忘れていたずらに拝金唯物思想に心酔したからである。眼前の破局は天の啓示であり、真の日本精神を取り戻す絶好の機会と考え、将来の繁栄への基としよう」。このように、松下幸之助の経営の根底には常に「日本精神」という概念が流れていた。本書はその日本精神とは何かについて、「衆知を集める」「主座を保つ」「和を貴ぶ」という三つの視点から論じたもの。日本人に対する深い敬意と愛情を感じさせながら、先人たちが培った伝統精神こそが日本の繁栄をつくりあげた原動力であることを様々な歴史上のエピソードを交えながら語る。宗教学者の山折哲雄氏が「『和魂』は世界に誇る叡智であることを喝破した隠れた名著」と推薦の一文を寄せている。 【PHP研究所】
