来る10月22日（日）に、第48回衆議院議員総選挙が実施されます（10月10日公示）。
現在の衆議院議員の任期は、2018年12月まででしたが、９月25日に、安倍首相が、記者会見を行い、衆議院を解散することを表明し、28日に安倍内閣が閣議において衆議院の解散を決定、第194回国会本会議で衆議院が解散されました。
選挙の最大の焦点は、安倍首相が政権の座を維持できるかどうかですが、安倍首相は、今回の衆議院の解散に理由について、緊迫する北朝鮮情勢への対応と2019年10月に消費税率を10％に引き上げ、その増収分を子育て支援に振り分けるとする政策の是非を国民に問うことを挙げています。
