簡單的說，這是一本體認孔子的書。要體認孔子，就應直面真孔子。要直面真孔子，捨《論語》而無別的辦法。 《論語》這部書雖然不是孔子親作，卻是與他直接接觸的高材生親與聞見，並向再傳弟子們轉述的，較準確真實的記錄了孔子的言行。 孔子在《論語》裡的話著實不多，但句句言簡意賅，點出了時代意義、點出了人性的真要，兩千年後再度研讀孔學，仍不得不欽佩孔子對人的觀察力，已穿過時空，不論處於任何時代，均同樣適用、同樣精確。 若我們能認認真真的讀一讀《論語》，心靈必為之震撼，崇仰之情會油然而生。《論語》中的孔子樸實無華，冷眼一瞥，也許會覺得沒什麼了不起，而這正表明我們犯了浮躁病。
