 池志徵，浙江省溫州瑞安縣人，清朝光緒十七年（1891）冬，來臺遊歷，擔任官署幕僚職務，在臺三年期間，總計五百六十日，足跡幾乎遍及全臺灣，遠及臺灣後山。《全臺遊記》一書，作者自述，是根據光緒十八、十九年間的日記刪改而成為一卷。當時作者還寫有《番社紀聞略》及《臺遊雪鴻記》兩本書，可惜未妥善保存，都已亡佚，僅剩此書存世。
由於池志徵原著以古文書寫，筆者將其翻譯成為現代中文，分享給有興趣的讀者，並且選錄當時相關的臺灣老照片，以做為讀者閱讀時的輔助參考。
