《千字文》是南北朝時，梁朝散騎侍郎周興嗣所編的書，相傳是奉梁武帝蕭衍之命，在諸子百家中挑選一千個不同的字，所編纂而成。雖然是零散的單字組合，但以四字一句、兩句一對的方式編排，使得原本雜亂無章、毫無系統的單字，卻能編成對仗工整、條理分明的文句。尤其可貴的是，各句的韻腳均依韻文的規則押韻，可說文采斐然、聲調和諧，既便於朗朗上口，也有助於牢記不忘。
《千字文》共二百五十句，一百二十五對，內容涵蓋廣泛，舉凡天文地理、國學知識、歷史故事、倫理道德等，均無所不包，是流傳久遠、家喻戶曉的啟蒙書籍。
由於《千字文》是四字一句的單字組合，對讀者來說，雖簡短易讀，但內容的敘述，卻有欠詳明，故重新注釋解說，期使讀者更加瞭解其深義，並提高研讀的興趣。
