「平等主義」の危険について、日本人はあまりにも無自覚、無警戒ではないか。釈迦もキリストも「平等」を教えはしたが、現世における平等主義を説いたわけではない。「この世で最も高い地位にある人でさえも、悪いことをすれば地獄に落ちる。奴隷であっても、心正しき者は天国に行く」というように、来世を含めて考えれば誰でも平等というのが両者の教えである。現世における平等主義を説いたのは、マルクス、レーニン＝社会主義者である。そして、社会主義の支配が地獄の苦しみを生み出したことは、二十世紀の歴史を振り返れば明白である。「貧富差が広がってもよいのか」という批判があるが、貧富の差があるほど貧乏人が暮らしやすいというハイエクの逆説もある。現実に、貧富の差が激しいアメリカから亡命者が出たという話は耳にしない。二十世紀の呪縛を排し、日本が活性化するための道を説く「不平等主義のすすめ」のほか、八本の論文を収録した評論集。 【PHP研究所】
