白樸雜劇代表作《梧桐雨》，全名為《唐明皇秋夜梧桐雨》，取材於唐人陳鴻《長恨歌傳》，題則取白居易《長恨歌》之「秋雨梧桐葉落時」詩句。劇寫唐明皇與楊貴妃之故事，與《長生殿》相較，《梧桐雨》之淒婉更勝《長生殿》。
《梧桐雨》著墨重點在於，貴妃香消玉殞後，唐明皇退位養老，卻日夜思念貴妃，懸其畫像日夜對之。一夕於夢中與貴妃相見，無奈被梧桐雨聲驚醒，追思往事，倍感惆悵，不勝唏噓。

白樸（約1226—1306）為元曲四大家之一，是元代著名的雜劇作家。字仁甫，號蘭谷。祖籍山西。從小出生在戰亂流離下，母親也因戰事而死，養成他無心朝政放蕩不羈的個性。不過他向元好問學習，其詩詞散曲均見流露故國之思，具滄桑淒涼之感。
