秀實的第三本「止微室談詩」。一貫保持以「語言」為評鑑準則的詩學風格，主張「詩歌意味著語言功能的改變」。本書收錄十八篇詩歌評論。內容涵蓋兩岸三地詩人的作品，包括台灣的余光中、向明、洪郁芬、葉莎，香港江沉、李藏璧、馬覺、云影、路雅、施維，大陸紫凌兒、阿桃歌、惠喬等。新詩歷史已逾百年，精采紛陳。但難以尋得一致的審美準則。因而常給讀者極大的迷思。作者在談詩之明朗與晦澀時，說：「詩歌因其呈現，沒有給予平庸讀者所渴望的線性脈絡，故而或有晦澀難明之弊，但卻在呼喚精明的讀者。」在談詩歌語言時，說：「詩歌的語言必得穿越語文而為藝術。那是判別詩與非詩的重要指標。語文是尋求詞語客觀的準確，並抵達於目標（意）。詩歌語言（藝術）即是竪立主觀的準確，並把真相呈現出來。」其精闢之處可見一斑。
