本研究透過大趨勢分析，瞭解資源能源再生利用以及環境永續將是未來重要的趨勢議題，而滿足前述雙重目標的技術即是氫能技術。氫能應用科技研究目前在歐美、日本及中國等國已經走到起動階段，並且取得許多重要研究成果。如果我國現階段投入此一領域，政府科技部會選擇具前瞻性的研發項目並投入適當的資源即是影響後續發展的關鍵步驟。
本主題研究方法透過高被引論文的蒐集及群聚分析，以製氫、儲氫、燃料電池三個主題對高被引論文依其摘要及關鍵字找出各主題下的研究熱門課題，並以技術樹圖象呈現其中之技術分類架構，以作為勾勒本研究氫科技發展的基礎資訊。希望透過高被引論文的群聚分析使讀者能夠瞭解氫應用技術發展的未來趨勢動向，同時研究成果能夠成為決策機構作為研發資源配置及研發項目選擇之參考資料是本研究之預期效益。
