涅槃是所顯得,不是所修得;謂第八識雖本來自性清淨涅槃,而由客塵煩惱障覆,令不彰顯,真正聖道出生時,斷除第八識無始熏習的種種無明、煩惱障覆故,令第八識之分段生死種子執藏的染污相消除,顯現斷除我執的清淨相,使得第八識心體原有的涅槃相顯露,名為證得涅槃;然而尚未修除煩惱障我執之時,第八識心體仍然是住於涅槃境界中,所以涅槃非本無今有。此依第八識之真如(識之實性,心之實性)之離障而施設涅槃,故無住處涅槃之體即是清淨法界。

是故《密嚴經》云:「一切眾生阿賴耶識,本來而有,圓滿清淨,出過於世,同於涅槃。」涅槃即是第八識真如性之另一名稱,因此緣故《成唯識論》中方便說為「阿羅漢證得生空真如」,這意思雖不是說阿羅漢真的已證得第八識心體,卻可彰顯真如即是第八阿賴耶識常時都如是之本具自性;只要能離煩惱障,即有第八識心體的涅槃相顯露出來,所以涅槃是「所顯得」,而不是「所生得」。所以依據《成論》的說法,清淨法界即是依佛地第八識所顯之真如無為心性而假名施設,顯示無垢識心體之常住不滅,永不變易。要皆不離法界實相心第八識心體。
