詩曰：忠義由來勁節存。為人謹守眾民尊。
能知涵養勤修悟。天地合心至善門。
能知涵養勤修悟。天地合心至善門。
天何以而常覆？地何以而常載？日月何以而常明？皆有道維持其間也。其道為何？曰忠義而已。夫忠者，天地之心，吾人之性也； 義者，天地之宜，人事之則也。天地以之而運行，日月以之而昭明。人者，天地之所生也，以天為父，以地為母，卓然立於天地之間，安可不則天法地而以身任之 乎，任之之道又如何？則亦曰立忠與義焉而已。夫忠義云者，其意雖不同，而相互聯屬，捨忠而言義，而義不彰，捨義而言忠，而忠亦隘，事雖二端，理則一致。所 謂浩然之氣，忠義之氣也，直養無害，則塞於天地之間，忠義之氣塞之也。
