陶行知是近代中國著名教育家，在平民教育、鄉村教育和生活教育理論等方面都有貢獻；他曾三次到香港，成立中華業餘學校，在本地播下了普及教育的種子，戰後復校並發展而為中業教育機構。本書分為兩部分：第一輯「陶行知與近代中國」，收錄了十二篇在「陶行知與近代中國」研討會上宣讀的論文；第二輯「陶行知研究論壇」，包括研究札記和書評等十一篇。香港學界近幾年來在陶行知研究方面所做出的若干成績，以及兩岸三地專家學者就有關課題進行交流切磋的情形，在本書中得到了充分的反映，關心教育問題的讀者不容錯過。

周佳榮，香港中文大學榮譽文學士，日本廣島大學文科碩士，香港大學哲學博士。現任香港浸會大學歷史系系主任，開設近代中國思潮、近代亞洲等課程。
文兆堅，香港浸會大學歷史系博士研究生，專攻近代中國教育史、《教育雜誌》與近代中國教育思潮；現為香港浸會大學近代史研究中心研究助理及香港理工大學香港專上學院兼任講師。
