春天來了，小男孩的父親買回來一些樹苗，想把它們栽在屋前。他把孩子們叫過來，讓他們每人栽一棵，並對他們說，誰栽的樹苗長得最好，就給誰買一件禮物。小男孩也想得到父親的禮物，可是看到兄妹們那蹦蹦跳跳提水澆樹的身影，他卻希望自己栽的那棵樹早日死去。因此，在澆過一兩次水后，他就再也沒去管它了。
