 香光莊嚴》雜誌取名自〈大勢至菩薩念佛圓通章〉: 若眾生心,憶佛念佛,現前當來,必定見佛。去佛不遠,不假方便,自得心開。如染香人,身有香氣,此則名曰香光莊嚴。 


如所取典,生活雖不圓滿,但若常能親近佛法,薰染佛陀法身香,猶能激發自身的智慧光明,並相互扶持彼此、共同增上,佛與眾生新新這即是《香光莊嚴》雜誌秉持的信念。香光莊嚴雜誌的出版與發行,不能離香光尼僧團而有;香光尼僧團的創建與出現,亦不能離臺灣社會及臺灣佛教而存在。


1985香光尼僧團不斷累積拓展修學、弘法實務經驗,釋悟因以「人人都在寫歷史」為核心價值,肯定踏印歲月的每個足跡,並增加正見正信佛教的傳播管道,創刊《香光莊嚴》雜誌,對尼僧團所走過的歷史作深刻反省,並為臺灣人民在變動不安的潮流裡,指明安心之道。
