저자: 김혜정 저자 김혜정은 1985년 대학 재학중에 신춘문예에 라는 단편소설로 등단한 소설가이다. 당시 심사를 맡았던 황순원 선생과 전광용 선생은 '전체적인 짜임새'를 높이 평가했으며 '앞으로 작품을 쓸 수 있는 가능성'에 주목했다. 그후 저자는 등 다수의 방송 다큐멘터리 원고를 쓰는 방송작가로 일했으며, 2000년 공부를 위해 가족과 함께 캐나다 밴쿠버로 이민을 떠나 현재 그곳에서 큰아들 설휘와 함께 병과 싸우고 있다. 설휘는 뇌의 시신경 가까운 곳에 자리한 종양으로 인해 한쪽 눈의 시력을 잃었으며 나머지한쪽 눈의 시야는 4분의 1로 좁혀졌다. 뇌 속에 레자브와를 설치해서 행한 항암치료가 실패한 후 종양제거 수술을 거쳐(그 수술로 휘는 몸 한쪽에 마비가 왔다) 10퍼센트의 종양을 남겨둔 채 방사선치료를 받았고 현재 그 경과를 지켜보고 있다.
