About the author
저자 채만식은 1930년대와 1940년대에 걸쳐, ‘작품으로 말하기’라는 작가 윤리를 자신의 생애 윤리로서 실천한 작가로 평가받는다. 그는 소설을 통하여 당대 지식인의 고민과 약점을 풍자하고, 사회의 모순을 사실적으로 묘사하였다. 풍자적인 작품을 주로 썼으며, 사회 부조리와 갈등을 사실적으로 묘사하는 한편 날카로운 역사의식을 보여 주었다는 평가를 받고 있다.
