내가 있던 곳은 울지도, 웃지도 않는 곳이었다. 언제부터였을까. 적어도 내가 태어났을 때부터 세상은 그러했다. 싸우는 것도, 납치같은 것도 없었다. 안드로이드 로봇들은 무엇이든 원하는 걸 만들어주었고, 세상은 인간을 필요로 하지 않았다.
“그러면 사람은? 사람은 무얼하지? 사냥도 하지 않고, 일을 하지 않는다면―”
“아무것도 안 해.”
“그렇다면 무얼 위해 살지?”
“아무것도.”
내가 살던 세상은 그러했다. 그래서 테무진의 많은 감정이 신기했다.
“그건 어떤 표정이에요? 알고 싶어.”
고작 웃는 얼굴 따위에 속여도 된다고 하고, 심지어 화내지도 않았다. 사랑에 대해 이야기할 때는 화냈으면서. 나는 아직까지 모르는 것이 많았다. 이제까지 몰라도 상관없는 것들뿐이었다.
“나, 당신이 알고 싶다.”
그러니 지금은 이 남자를 알고 싶었다.
“…좋아 미치겠다는 표정, 당장에 여진, 너를 집어삼키고 싶다는 표정, 정말로 돌아버리겠다는 표정…!”
