‘왜 저래? 근데 나도 그래….’ 허구한 날 쌈박질을 하면서도 꼭 붙어다니고, 입으로는 바빠 죽겠다 하면서 노상 누워서 손바닥만 한 휴대폰만 들여다보고 있는 등 알다가도 모를 인간종의 행태를 고양이의 시선으로 낱낱이 파헤친다. 머리로는 잘 알고 있지만 도통 몸이 따라주지 않는 인간의 구구절절한 변명을 듣고 있자면 그래도 가재는 게 편이라고, 슬금슬금 인간의 손을 들어주게 된다. 일을 시작하려면 한참 동안은 예열이 필요하고, 눕고 싶다는 생각뿐인 머릿속에 공감하며 책장을 넘기다 보면, 지금도 모로 누워서 휴대폰을 들여다보고 있는 날 보며 우리 집 반려동물은 속으로 무슨 생각을 하고 있을지 궁금해진다.
