성균관대학교 문화융합대학원 겸임교수다. 중앙대학교 신문방송학과에서 박사학위를 받았고, 영상물등급위원회 영화심의위원, SBS 시청자위원, 어바나 샴페인 일리노이대학교 동아시아연구소 방문학자 등을 지냈고, SBS 시청자평가원으로 미디어 비평 활동도 하고 있다. 저서로는 『디지털 세대·문화·정체성』(2015), 『누가 문화자본을 지배하는가』(공저, 2015), 『모바일과 여성』(공저, 2015), 『디지털 사회와 커뮤니케이션』(공저, 2014), 『신한류와 문화이동의 지형학』(2013)가 있으며, 논문으로는 “대학생들의 모바일 인스턴트 메신저 이용과 일상화 경험에 관한 연구”(2014), “한류문화에서 재현되는 여성/담론?케이팝 아이돌 걸그룹의 뮤직비디오 속 이미지를 중심으로”(2016) 등이 있다.
