문학동네 한국고전문학전집의 열네번째 책. ‘우언소설(寓言小說)’은 우언적 글쓰기로 이루어진 고소설을 가리킨다. 우언은 서사(敍事)와 교술(敎述)의 중간 갈래로서 동아시아 한문학권에서 일찍부터 활용되어온 담론 방식이다. 이 책에서 소개하는 다섯 편의 작품은 신광한(申光漢)의 「안빙의 꿈여행安憑夢遊錄」 「서재에서 밤놀이書齋夜會錄」, 조식(曺植)과 김우옹(金宇?)의 「신명스런 집神明舍圖銘과 천군 전기天君傳」, 임제(林悌)의 「원생의 꿈여행元生夢遊錄」 「시름성愁城誌」이다. 모두 16세기에 창작된 이 작품들은 15세기 김시습(金時習)의 『금오신화金鰲新話』 이후로 한동안 보이지 않았던 형성기 소설에 우언의 특색을 뚜렷하게 남긴 성과물이다.
About the author
서울에서 출생하여 연세대 중문학과를 졸업한 뒤 한국학중앙연구원의 한국학대학원 한국한문학 전공 석사과정과 한국문학사 박사과정을 이수하고, 「조선전기 방외인문학에 관한 당대인의 인식 연구」로 박사학위를 취득했다. 1991년 제1회 나손학술상, 2000년 제5회 성산학술상, 2003년 단국대 연구업적상을 받았다. 현재 단국대 한국어문학과 교수로 재직중이며, 한국 및 동아시아 우언문학에 대한 연구를 지속하고 있다. 관련된 저술로 『한국의 방외인문학』 『틈새의 미학』 『윤리의 서사화』 『한국 우언산문 선집』 1, 2(공저), 편저서로 『동아시아 우언론과 한국의 우언문학』 『동아시아 우언문학 비교론』 『우언의 인문학적 위상과 현대적 활용』, 역서로 『세계의 우언과 알레고리』 등을 펴냈다.
